A useful definition
I use world model to mean a learned representation that makes relevant future outcomes easier to predict and control. The emphasis is on usefulness for decisions, not on reconstructing every detail of the environment.
Three questions
- What remains stable across observations?
- Which future variables can the model predict?
- Can the representation support counterfactual actions?
This framing keeps the research question tied to behavior instead of making the model an isolated compression exercise.
